PETERSON CONTEMPORARY ART

Bend, Oregon's Foremost Contemporary Art Gallery

October is upon us as are the telltale signs of Autumn. Crisp mornings, shifting colors leaving us spellbound and a new, bright and seasonal show at PCA. We will welcome the new month with a two person show featuring Oregon artists Dawn Emerson and Stan Peterson. This unique duo has shown side by side before and their work pairs so well we're going for a second round! Their show Songs & Stories will open with a reception and celebration on Friday October 4th from 5-8pm. Both artists will be here to join in on the fun and enjoy the unique and symbiotic atmosphere their art, together, creates.

Born on the East Coast and slowly migrating to Central Oregon, Dawn Emerson finds herself inspired by the desert smells, animals, colors and wide open vistas that surround her log cabin studio near Smith Rock. Dawn's energetic nature allows her pieces to literally dance and appear almost calligraphic. Known as an innovator of the pastel medium, she has evolved to create works that are poetic and alive.

Stan Peterson was born and raised in Portland, and it was an early career in the Postal Service that welcomed him into the art world. Dogs were a constant on his daily deliveries which inspired him to learn how to carve wood into these familiar creatures he encountered. Stan's recent work focuses on the energy and movement of dogs and horses which he sees as universally good companions commenting: "My dogs are carved basswood, no need to go out in the middle of the night!"
